Nutrition

  • Kelp really is amazing! It has an abundance of nutrients both common and unique that aid in a variety of functions in the body. Mainly it’s a powerhouse source for trace minerals, including potassium (1 portion of Seacharrones has the same levels of potassium as a banana); iodine, magnesium, and copper.

It’s also a good source of vitamins such as Vitamin K and B

Additionally kelp is a source of the unique and powerful antioxidants Fucose and Fucoxanthin - which are ONLY found in marine vegetables.

  • Kelp is an excellent, whole-foods source of Iodine. Iodine’s an essential mineral for healthy brain and body function - specifically the proper function of the thyroid. It’s very rare in the food system and aside from iodized salt, isn’t found in most U.S. diets. In fact with the current trend of low-sodium diets, artisanal salts, and kosher salts; iodized salt isn’t used nearly as much as in the past - making iodine rich whole foods an important element to any diet.

Environment

  • Yes!! Kelp is one if not the MOST regenerative crops on the planet. It sequesters CO2 at rates factors higher than land plants; it combats ocean acidification in its water system; it absorbs excess nitrogen in the water system; and it does all of this without the use of freshwater, arable land, fertilizers, or pesticides.

  • Yes! Kelp forests are home to a wide variety of sea creatures, including small fish, otters, invertebrates, and salmon that visit kelp beds to feed and find shelter amongst the blades. With natural kelp forests disappearing on the U.S. coastline, our sea farms are are committed to restoring and creating kelp habitats through planting, care, and continued research that assists in kelp bed restoration.

  • Seaweeds actually sequester greenhouse gases—absorbing carbon dioxide and in turn producing oxygen—making the surrounding ocean less acidic and reducing the effects of climate change.
